Why people say soft water feels slippery?

The slippery feeling is due to the absence of the hardness minerals removed by the water softener which cause friction and the natural feel of the oils in the skin. The soap is not the cause of this feeling.

Softened water causes the skin's pores to be cleaned much better than with hard water, and that allows the skins naturals oils to come to the surface. Hence the slippery feeling. Your skin will not have any film caused by the curd in the soap left on it as with hard water. Your skin will be softer and won't dry flake or crack which causes your skin to itch. As soon as you dry your skin, the feeling is gone but the benefits remain. Most people love the feel and what softened water does for the their skin. They use much less skin cream and oils because they don't have to use them with softened water.

Most people get used to the feeling and when they go somewhere with hard water, or their softener stops working, they really don't like the feel of hard water.  It normally takes about three weeks before the slippery feeling goes away.  Cut back on shampoo and detergents to about 1/5th of what you've been using with hard water and adjust accordingly.
